Clinical Challenge of Feline Bilateral THR

This case features a 1-year-old female Maine Coon cat, weighing 6kg, presenting with highly complex bilateral hip dysplasia, severe muscle atrophy, and secondary bilateral femoral neck fractures. Staged surgical intervention was planned: the left-side THR was completed in early April, followed by a Grade IV patellar luxation repair in early May. In late May, the right-side THR was performed under extremely demanding conditions where the proximal femur had already developed osteonecrosis.

Surgical Executions & Locomotion Recovery

Using identical surgical metrics as the contralateral side, the team implanted a 12mm Cup, a 10-6 Dual Mobility Head, a 6mm Neck, and a Size #2 Stem. This staged, highly complex reconstruction successfully resolved the severe bone infarction and balanced the hip-knee joint forces. The patient was able to stand and consume food autonomously within 24 hours post-operation, showcasing the extreme reliability and biological integration of Vetmaster’s small animal implants under severe clinical conditions.
